Commonly known as the satsuma or tangerine, Citrus nobilis is a large shrub / small tree with bright delicious fruits that can be easily peeled and eaten straight from the tree, or cooked and used to make desserts, jams and jellies.

The oil expressed from the peel of the satsuma orange is also used frequently as an essential oil and often found in soaps, shampoos, creams and other beauty products.

Ideally grown in patio pots, and will thrive in a sunny, warm position with full sunlight, but will require the winter protection of a heated greenhouse or conservatory.

Citrus nobilis are slow growing evergreens that require full sun or heat to produce fruits. They will thrive in container pots with winter protection and it is advised that the plant is brought indoors during the winter months. Ensure your citrus tree is given plenty of water, especially during the first year, and the roots are not allowed to dry out! It is advised to fertilise your citrus tree with general fertiliser in the spring before new growth, and prune it during the winter when the plant is dormant.
